Abraham Lincoln is one of the most prominent figures in American history, known for his leadership during one of the most tumultuous periods in the country's history: the Civil War. Born in Hodgenville, Kentucky in 1809, Lincoln grew up in a log cabin and worked as a laborer and a shopkeeper before entering politics. He was elected as the 16th President of the United States in 1860 and served in this position until his assassination in 1865.
